Dear Parents,

Many of you have approached me about the 2015 STEM Summer Institute at Western High School.  If you are interested in having your children join us this summer for an extended 2-weeks program (8 days in total) from July 27-30 and Aug. 3-6, please fill out your application form at your earliest convenience.  We will extend the deadline until Friday, April 17.  With your blessings, the "Imagine the Impossible" STEM Academy at Western High School has a busy year with many progresses during the 2014-2015 school year. Below please find a few highlights:

1. Our FTC Robotics team became a semi-finalist during the 2015 Florida FTC State Championship (out of 142 teams in Florida).

2. We displayed our school Solar Car in Miami International Auto Show (Nov. 2014) and Ft. Lauderdale International Auto Show (March 2015).

3. Our school electric kit car team won the inaugural Miami Formula e-Prix School Series (SE) in March with $5,000 prize on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Miami Downtown.

4. Our school Astronaut Challenge team won 2nd place in Florida Student Astronaut Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 28 in the NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

5. Western High School received an invitation from the Motorola Solutions Foundation to participate in an "STEM Day" celebration event in the Florida State Capitol on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 with our Governor, Lt. Governor, Education Commissioner, and many appointed and elected officers.

6. Our school FRC robotics team, in partnership with West Broward High School, became the regional finalist in Peachtree/Atlanta Regional Championship and will advance to the FIRST FRC World Championship in St. Louis, MO from April 22 to 25, 2015.

7. Three of Western's  Rocketry teams will be participating in the National Final of the 2015 Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) in Washington DC on Saturday, May 9th, 2015.

8. Our solar car team will be participating in the 2015 Solar Car Challenge in Texas Motor Speedway, Ft. Worth/Dallas, Texas, July 17-23, 2015.

 

While many students at Western High excel in STEM events/competitions, we would like to have your child(ren) continue to get exposed to the STEM opportunities.  During this summer institute, we will build on our success from last year and offer the following programs:

1. Biotech.

2. Rocketry.

3. Solar Car.

4. Robotics.

5. Coding for Robotics.

6. Computer Assisted Design  (3D) and 3-D printing.
