CATS for CATS Assessment is looking for help in funding their program!
At WHS student achievement is our top priority, and the after school tutorial program is a key component in making sure that our students excel academically. The program provides a vital part of our FCAT preparation and serves approximately twenty percent of our student enrollment. We are asking your consideration and help in funding this program. Your monetary gifts and or donation of goods and services will be used to provide incentives for the students who receive tutoring. If you or your company would like to help please contact

1. Attention Interact members; There will be meeting on Monday, November 19th in the main campus multi-purpose room. Several service projects will be discussed, so see you there! Don't forget to bring your UNICEF boxes.

2. The model United Nations club will be meeting on Monday, November 19th in room 515. Please bring your club dues and attend this important meeting.

3.Volunteers are needed at Fox Trail Elementary school for their family science night, December 4th and 5th from 5:30 to 8:30PM. Please call 382-6350 to sign up.

4. Attn all HELP members; There will be a meeting this Monday, November 19th to discuss December events and service contacts. All Stage One members please meet in the Drama room, all Little Acorn members please meet in the cafeteria. Your attendance is very important, please be there.

5.To all Juniors interested in being Senators of Junior Class, applications will be available at the next meeting on Tuesday, November 20th at 3 PM in room 339.

6.The Broward County Fair is holding a school spirit contest. By attending the Broward County Fair tonight you could win your school $1000. The Broward County Fair has cool new rides and much more entertainment. So&.for a night of fun and games come to the BCF on November 16th.

7. Boys basketball takes stage as the Wildcats Challenge starts on Tuesday. In the first game Douglas takes on American Heritage at 6PM. The Main event takes place at 7:30PM as Western plays Northeast. The games continue on Wednesday night. We will have a $500 dollar half court shot contest, a chance to win free whoppers, and a DJ at every game this year. Come check us out!!

8.On Saturday, 37 students from Mrs. DeGrange's law studies classes will be competing at the Broward Mock Trial. Congratulations and good luck to all of them.

9. Attention Seniors! What is grad night? Who will be the entertainers? Well guess what? Representatives from Disney will be attending our next Senior class meeting on Tuesday, November 20th. Come to find out about Grad Night after school Tuesday in the Auditorium.

10. Listen up Wildcats! Senior class will be selling yellow roses for two dollars and red carnations for a dollar during all lunches, this Tuesday and Wednesday. Show that special someone that you care and buy them a flower just in time for the holidays.

11. There will be Drama Club meeting after school Tuesday, November 20th in the Drama room. Bring a friend and learn of our upcoming events.

12. Attention Juniors!! Former Western High grad, Cadet Alison Adas, from the West Point Military Academy, will be making a presentation Tuesday, November 20th, 2nd hour in the Media Center. Juniors who wish to learn about military academy life, should plan to attend. It's not often that we have a chance to get first hand information&especially from one of our own graduates!! Sign up in the BRACE office, if you'd like to attend.

Family Central which provides services for improving the quality of life for children and families, needs volunteers to help with a number of holiday activities sponsored by American Express to help children. Volunteer opportunities include: Nov. 23 &endash; Dec. 24, evenings and Saturdays &endash; Barnes & Noble Holiday Gift Wrapping, Oakwood Shopping Plaza; Sunday, December 2 &endash; Motorcycle Toy Drive (collect & sort toys); Lou Bachrodt's Holiday Toy Drive, Coconut Creek &endash; Saturday, December 8, 11AM-6PM (act as Santa's Helpers and cashiers); Wednesday, December 19 &endash; American Express Holiday Party, 5:30-8:00 PM &endash; a party for 35 children from Family Central with dinner, singing, meeting Santa and receiving gifts. Cooperative Feeding Program, an agency that feeds hungry bodies, minds and souls through the provision of nutritious food and diversity of services, urgently needs volunteers to host EMERGENCY FOOD DRIVES to assist thousands of families in need during the holiday season through December 24th. Volunteers are also needed to sort and distribute food and stock shelves. Contact Cooperative Feeding Program at (954) 792-2328 or drop your food donations at the food pantry: 3581 NW 19th Street, Lauderdale Lakes, Monday-Friday from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.

15. Winterfest, a non-profit organization contributing to the aesthetic, cultural, economic and tourist development of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale area, is making preparations for The Singular Wireless Winterfest Boat Parade, presented by Nokia. Volunteers are needed during the Boat Parade to help set up and man the Purina Grandstand Viewing Area on Saturday, December 15. Community Service hours will be given for office work, 3-5 PM at the Chamber of Commerce of Great Ft. Lauderdale. Please contact Dawn Read at (954) 767-0686 for more information.

16. Broward Partnership for the Homeless has scheduled several special events in connection with the Christmas season. 1. ** Shhhh! Listen Up! Western is holding its first annual date auction sponsored by Key Club. If you would like to see your friends or crushes auctioned off, nominate them at the green counter at lunch for 25 cents! All proceeds will go to charity.

3. ** Attn all JUNIORS and SENIORS: Students interested in ASVAB Testing must sign up for the November 5th test by Wednesday, October 31st. See Dr. Wilson for specific details. Names will be placed in each teacher's mailbox by November 1st. Thanks again.

3. ** Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital, an all volunteer, non-profit organization, needs elementary, middle and high school students to make a difference this Halloween Season by trick or treating for wildlife. Students need to ask for animal treats (instead of candy), such as canned cat & dog food, bird seeds, rabbit and iguana food and supplies of bleach, paper towels, large garbage bags and loose change. 4. ** Family, Inc. an agency that supports child support enforcement and raises awareness for child advocacy issues is hosting a KIDS CARNIVAL fundraising event at Stevens Field on Sunday, November 4th from 10:00AM to 4:00 PM. Volunteers are required to dress in costumes and makeup to assist in various scenes! Tiny Tot Halloween Theater, a non-frightening children's fun house of children 5 years and younger needs costumed volunteers to oversee the tots and distribute treats.
