Mary DeArmas Honored as September’s Teacher of the Month
At Western, we make a point to honor those teachers who go above and beyond and demonstrate leadership, initiative, creativity and unending devotion to their students and the teaching profession. Each month we honor one teacher for his/her dynamic work with our Wildcats. The teacher receiving this honor each month receives a Visa gift certificate, a Certificate of Appreciation and a special parking spot in front of the school.
The title of, “September Teacher of the Month” went to 9th grade math teacher, Mary DeArmas. Ms. DeArmas joined the Wildcat family last year, as she left her job teaching at Indian Ridge Middle School to challenge herself at the high school level. Mary says of her experience so far at Western, “I truly believe I have found my passion.” Teaching Algebra I and Intensive math, Ms. DeArmas works closely and very collaboratively with her 9th grade team of teachers. Her students have shown tremendous academic growth as a result of her innovative and interactive teaching techniques.
Western High School is Ms. DeArmas’ home away from home in so many ways. Her two sons, Marcus and Kenny play for the Wildcat football team. Ms. DeArmas serves on the football booster club and tutors several of the football players. When she is not working with our Wildcats, she enjoys spending time with family and volunteering at her church.
Ms. DeArmas is an outstanding addition to our Wildcat family; she is certainly deserving of this honor!!
