Nancy Boulger Wins Title of 2007 Teacher of the Year

When Health Science teacher, Nancy Boulger, was nominated to be Western’s “Teacher of the Year”, it was no surprise to anyone on campus. Ms. Boulger is an amazing teacher and mentor and is an inspiration to her students and colleagues. Nancy has been teaching Health Science for the past nine years at Western and serves as an adjunct professor in the Nursing program at Broward Community College. Prior to that, she was a labor and delivery nurse at Coral Springs Medical Center.
By simply visiting Ms. Boulger’s class, you can tell she loves what she does; every lesson is filled with energy and enthusiasm. She develops meaningful lessons for her students and exposes them to real world hospital experiences, where they connect what is learned in the classroom to what actually happens with patients in the hospital. She is the Chapter Advisor for HOSA (Health Occupation Services of America) and has served in that role for the past 9 years. Her students participate in competitions each year under her leadership.
Ms. Boulger gives 110% to Western each and every day. Not only does she effectively serve her students, she serves her peers as well. She has been a facilitator for Western’s Staff Development program for the past two years, mentors her peers as a National Board teacher, and mentors new teachers through the NESS program. Ms. Boulger attended a week-long training this summer in Atlanta, where she became a certified Promethean Active Board trainer; she is one of only 2 individuals employed with the School Board that holds this title. She has trained our staff members in effective utilization of the Promethean boards and has gone to our neighboring schools to conduct trainings.
Ms. Boulger exemplifies a collaborative, collegial attitude. She extends her expertise outside of her own classroom, to reach as many students as possible, by sharing her knowledge. She is so deserving of this honor and we could not be more proud!!!!
