Happy New Year Western families,
Check out the following website which has been put together by the Parent Involvement Communications Council. It's an excellent resource and gives you links to the sites that you, as a parent, are interested in. Whether it's information from the Broward County School District, information on partnerships, direct links to Pinnacle and Virtual Counselor, calendars, etc., it's all here in one place - some of you might find this site easier to navigate than the Broward Schools website, www.browardschools.com. The Broward Schools website is very extensive and will also have all the School Board information such as agendas and supporting documentation, facility information, etc.

2008-2009 School Calendar
The proposed school calendar is on the agenda for the January 13th School Board Meeting. The calendar is not a policy and therefore only requires one vote.
You can copy and paste the following link if you would like to see a copy of the proposed calendar. The link has 36 pages - the District has many different calendars - the one that is relevant to students is on page 3.
Once the calendar is approved, it will be posted on the Broward Schools website, and on the Parent Involvement website, www.getinvolvedineducation.com/parents.
Volunteer Opportunity for students: Silver Ridge Elementary School will be holding its annual Winter Carnival on Saturday, January 31, 2009. Middle and High School students can earn Volunteer Service Hours by volunteering for the set up, operation and/or break down of the carnival. Students can sign up for one or more 2-hour sessions including setup (9-11am), first shift (11 am-1 pm), second shift (1-3 pm), third shift (3-5 pm), break down (4-6 pm).If you know any students who would like to volunteer, please contact the Silver Ridge PTO at 754-323-7501 ext. 5673 or email PTO@sresite.com.
College Academy @ BC to Hold Open Houses
The College Academy @ BC will host two informational Open Houses at Bailey Hall, Broward College, Central Campus, 3501 SW Davie Road, Davie, on Tuesday, January 27th at 7 p.m.
(for students whose last name begins with A-L) and Wednesday, January 28th at 7 p.m.
(for students whose last name begins with M-Z).
Western High School PTSA along with Mr. Rodriguez are preparing to open a bookstore offering the students AP, SAT, ACT preparatory books, as well as other required reading by teachers! We are planning to preorder books and have them available at Western for their convenience and benefit at cost.
We plan to have the store open before and after school 2 - 3 days a week. This will require PTSA volunteers and a coordinator who would work with Mr. Rodriguez on orders, organizing the store and coordinating the volunteers.
Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering your time to coordinating Western's new bookstore or times you are available to volunteer at the store
