Boy's golf challenged the weather and Coral Springs High School yesterday and came out on top!!!   The Wildcats improved their record to 7 and 2 by soundly defeating the Colts of Coral Springs.  The golf team had their best score of the season shooting 152 to Coral Springs' 195.  Leading the Cats with the low round of the match was Sean Schwartz with a 35.  Johnny Moh shot 38, highlighted by straight shots and sound putting. Jarred Martin scored 39 under muddy, wet conditions.  Matt Golden fought hard to achieve a 40.  Geoff Sutton and Alan Asburry also contributed to the strong win.  Congrats to the Wildcats!!!

The Wildcat Boys’ Golf Team improved their season record to 5 and 2, defeating Taravella High School with a score of 150 to 165.  Representing Western with medalist honors was Matt Golden with 35, Dan Bowman and Jarred Martin shot 38, John Moh had 39.  Geoff Sutton scored a 40.  Congratulations to the golf team, their next match will be against Flanagan High School at Flamingo Lakes this Monday.

The Boy's Golf team had their best showing yesterday soundly defeating South Plantation at THE PRESERVE, with a score of 157 to 176.  Sean Schwartz and Matt Golden had low honors with rounds of 37.  Jarred Martin had a 41, Geoffrey Sutton a 42, Don Bowman a 43 and John Moh a 44.  This represents the lowest 6-man score for the team!  The team averaged an outstanding 41.5.  The team's season record is now
4 and 2.  Congratulations!!

Seniors! Seniors! Seniors!  On Tuesday, 09/11 we will meet in the Auditorium and will be voting for our class song.  In order for any song to be considered please bring that song in on either a CD or your IPOD.  We’ll play a sample of your song at our meeting on Tuesday. The one receiving the most votes will then be used to represent our class.  Come to the meeting on Tuesday, 09/11 in the Auditorium and be a part of Senior Class history.

The President of the Rotary Club of Weston, Anthony Russo, is looking for a responsible senior student for part-time employment in his office.  The work consists of data entry.  If interested, see Mrs. Williams in the BRACE office.

National Honor Society members must attend the mandatory meeting on Friday, Sept. 14th after school in Room 341.  If you applied last year, you will receive your acceptance status on September 27th.  The following students are advised to meet with Ms. Gaudet in Room 341 before or after school before the 27th:  Paige Futch, Kristin Hampton, Chloe Hough, Caitlin Moore, Lauren Muskovac, Deliah Papke, Sandy Sanchez, Arianne Serrano, Claudia Sotomayor, Michael Stepanovic and Kyle Stone.

Don’t miss the opportunity to receive volunteer service hours while getting a suntan at the beach.  Join the Interact Club and Ecology Club for their first Beach Clean-Up at John Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach on Saturday, Sept. 15th.  Go to Mr. Franco, Room 1118 or Mrs. Weiss Room 1144 for permission forms.

The Ecology Club would like to thank all faculty and students for participating in our recycling program which started last Tuesday.  Please put your blue bins outside your classrooms on Tuesdays.  If you still need a bin contact Mrs. Weiss in Room 1144.  There is a mandatory Ecology Club Meeting on Tuesday after school in        Room 1144.

Attention Ice Cream Lovers!  HOSA will be selling Dippin’ Dots after school on Tuesday, 09/11 at the green counter for $3 each, cash only.  Exact change is appreciated!

Any students that need to attend FCAT Saturday Sessions – first log into Virtual Counselor and identify the areas you are weak in.  You must then register in Student Affairs for the appropriate months.  Classes start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:45 a.m.  Please be on time.  Math will be held in Room 216.  Reading will be held in Rooms 205 and 208.  Please visit our school website and click on the FCAT link for more details!!

Attention movie lovers:  Drama Club is beginning their monthly movie nights.  On Wednesday, 09/12 Gone With the Wind will be playing after school at 2:45 p.m. in the auditorium and Napolean Dynamite will play later that evening at 7:30 p.m.  Feel free to dress up and we’ll see you at the movies!  Tickets will be sold at the green counter Mon., Tues., and Wed. during both lunches.

The next meeting for the Spanish club will be today, 09/11 in Room 609 after school.  Service hours will be provided.  Everyone is welcome to join!

Tutoring in the Media Center will begin today, 09/11 after school and will continue every Monday thru Thursday afternoon each week.  NHS applications are available in guidance and are due to Room 341 by Sept. 21st.

All students interested in trying out for JV or Varsity Basketball need to see Coach Todd in Room 1103 ASAP.

Avoid the line on Friday night!  Buy your football tickets at the green counter during lunch on Wednesday and Friday.

Congratulations to the boys’ and girls’ swim team for defeating Taravella.  First place finishers were as follows:  Boys:  Matteus Rodriguez, Jeff Raymond, Vitor Rodriguez, Vinnie Alford  Girls:  Katie Laichak, Cherisse Campbell, Erica Funderburke.

Congratulations to the girls’ Wildcat Golf team on their victory over South Broward.  Lauren Franson scored a 40,  Rhianna Jenkins scored a 68, Christina Coronado, Sarah Lovelace & Ana Lovelace scored a 69.  Wish them luck on their match today against Pines Charter.

Good luck to the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams in their first meet against Cardinal Gibbons, Pompano  Beach, Ely and Piper.

Any students interested in running for Homecoming Court can pick up applications September 17 – September 21 at the green counter during A & B lunches.

All Interact and Ecology Club members who plan to participate in the beach clean-up this weekend please stop by Room 1118 to see Mr. Franco.

The University of Miami will be meeting with students this coming Monday, 09/10, in the Media Center during 1st hour.  Please sign up in the BRACE office and take a pass with you.  You may sign up starting today!

Attention Freshmen:  It’s time to get involved in Student Government.  Applications to run for any officer position are available in Portable 21 before and after school.  Hurry…they are due today!

Attention all MAO members:  There will be a Math Honor Society meeting on Monday, 09/10 in Room 1127.  Please attend.  Also, remember to bring your $10 dues.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boy’s Golf Team – the boys split their tri-match yesterday against Cypress Bay and Nova, defeating Nova.  Scoring for Western was:  Jarred Martin with a 41, Matt Golden with a 43, Bobby Higgins, Geoff Sutton and Dan Bowman helped with the victory!  Western’s record is now 2 and 2.
